Dominic Solanke Return Sends French Star Packing From Tottenham’s UCL Squad

The impending return of Tottenham Hotspur of England’s Nigerian-born striker, Dominic Solanke from a long spell out with injury has accounted for the exclusion of one of his rivals in the London team’s UEFA Champions League squad.

Sports247 gathered that the player that has been affected by Solanke’s return from injury is French star, Mathys Tel, who was officially informed last weekend that he will not be part of the squad for the second half of their UCL campaign.

While Solanke relishes his return, the former Chelsea, Liverpool and Bournemouth hitman has achieved it at the expense of Tel, who has been axed from the squad for a second time this season.

Spurs’ gaffer, Thomas Frank confirmed the development during a press conference on Monday, but said the £30m summer signing, who arrived from Bayern Munich of Germany seven months ago, will still feature in the English Premier League.

Frank admitted that Tel will not be selected for European action in the second half of the season because of the recovery by Solanke, whose injury forced The Whites to exploit a loophole in UEFA’s regulations to get his rival in.

A report by UK’s Daily Mail added, “During his brief stint in Champions League action, Tel played 32 minutes for his side during their 3-0 win versus Slavia Prague.

“But Tel will have no place in either of Spurs’ final two league phase games, against Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt, this season.

“Solanke – who has battled issues with an ankle since the start of the campaign – managed minutes from the bench in defeats to Aston Villa and West Ham in the FA Cup and Premier League earlier this month.

“Frank admitted that he was disappointed that Tel had to be left out to accommodate Solanke, in his previous place, and conceded that the player might have been in with a chance of starting.”
