Sports247 reports that the latest round of verbal applause for the Nigerian stars’ efforts in Morocco has a verdict that they played with ‘zest, patriotic fervour, resilience and character.’

These lofty words are noted in accolades rained on the squad by the president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who disclosed that he admired the players and their coaches during the competition.

Gusau, who is also president of West Africa Football Union (WAFU)-B, admitted that the Eagles’ inability to reach the final was a disappointment, just as was their failure in the World Cup qualifiers, but stressed that winning a ninth AFCON bronze medal is a consolation for both setbacks.

“When we landed in Morocco, our objective was to win the AFCON trophy and be the champions of Africa. We finished in third place and won the bronze medals instead.

“We missed our target but my joy is in the way our team played. They have played with zest and patriotic fervour, and showed resilience and character.

“The NFF is proud of the team’s campaign and will continue to do its best to encourage, support and motivate the team as we go forward,” Gusau promised.
