Sports247 gathered that Akor will have to step up his efforts in training when he gets back to the club after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, as the arrival of Maupay means he will face additional rivalry for a regular spot at Sevilla.

A report by TMW revealed that technical buffs at Akor’s club know that Marseille want to sell Maupay, who previously played for Everton of England, and officials at the Seville-based outfit are eager to welcome him this month.

This means Akor and his Super Eagles’ colleague, Chidera Ejuke will have Maupay among their new teammates when they rejoin the club after AFCON 2025, which ends on Sunday with a clash between Senegal and hosts Morocco.

A day before the final, Nigeria will face Egypt in the third place match, and Akor could be the man to lead the Super Eagles’ attack, as top striker, Victor Osimhen has reportedly returned to his club in Turkey.

It would also interest Akor to know that his coach at Sevilla, Matias Almeyda is eager to see his attacking options improve this month and the gaffer is glad that a deal is being prepared for Maupay.

Sports247 gathered further that Maupay has made only two first team appearances this season – one in Ligue 1 against OGC Nice in November and two in Coupe de France; but he is being touted to keep Akor on his toes at Sevilla.
