NPFL Invites Remo Stars, Ikorodu City to Abuja Over Disturbing Violence Videos

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has summoned Remo Stars and Ikorodu City FC to Abuja following disturbing reports and video evidence of violence during and after their Matchday 20 encounter in Ikenne.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the NPFL expressed deep concern over alleged fracas and physical attacks on fans linked to the match, despite a prior reconciliation meeting held with top officials of both clubs.

NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, said the league body was particularly frustrated that the incidents reportedly occurred after efforts had already been made to ease tensions between the two sides.

“In the light of the reports and video evidence that are in our possession, the NPFL is inviting the two clubs to an investigative hearing on Monday, January 19, at our office in Abuja,” the statement read.

Owumi explained that the hearing is aimed at establishing the immediate and remote causes of the incident, with a view to enforcing the league’s rules and imposing appropriate sanctions on any individual or club found culpable.

Reports indicate that members of the Ikorodu City FC contingent were allegedly attacked along the expressway while returning to Lagos following their 1–0 defeat to Remo Stars in Ikenne.

However, Remo Stars have since distanced themselves from the alleged attack, denying any involvement.

The NPFL reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on violence, stressing its commitment to ensuring safety, orderliness, and professionalism across all league venues.
