With the game firmly in their grasp, the hosts made a double substitution in the 87th minute as Sodiq Ibrahim and Ayobami Junior were withdrawn for Emmanuel Ndubueze and Qamar Adegoke. The changes had an immediate impact, as Qamar Adegoke sealed the victory in the 90th minute, slotting home to make it 3–0 and cap a comprehensive team performance.
The result marked a significant turnaround for Shooting Stars, who had suffered a 3–0 defeat to Enyimba in Aba at the end of the first stanza.
