“I Almost Gave Up… Then I Talked to God”- Rivers United Legend Festus Austin Reveal

Rivers United legend Festus Austin has opened up on one of the darkest chapters of his life — a journey marked by pain, fear, and an unshakeable test of faith.

The former captain and the current team Cordinator revealed how his career and personal life were nearly derailed after suffering three separate leg fractures, each more devastating than the last.

“I broke my leg three times,” Austin recalled. “The third one was the worst. The surgery lasted six hours. At that point, I had already accepted that I might never walk again.”

What was once a body built for the demands of professional football had been pushed to its absolute limit. In those moments, Austin admits football no longer mattered.

“I wasn’t thinking about football anymore. I had already concluded that my walking days were over. I thought about my life — not the game.”

As fear and uncertainty closed in, something unexpected happened. Not from doctors or therapists, but from within.

“Then a voice rose in my heart and asked me: ‘Have you talked to God?’”

That question marked a turning point. For Austin, healing did not begin with movement or medicine. It began with faith.

“Sometimes healing doesn’t begin in the body,” he said. “It begins in the place where fear meets faith.”

His story goes far beyond football trophies or appearances. It is a testimony of surrender, perception, and grace — a reminder that strength is sometimes found not in pushing forward, but in letting go.

Today, Festus Austine stands not just as a Rivers United legend, but as a symbol of resilience — proof that even when the road feels finished, purpose can still speak.
This is not just a football story.

It is a story of survival, belief, and hope. And as Austin gently puts it:

“If this spoke to you… pause — and talk to God.”
