JJ Olatunji Rejects Offer To Fight Jake Paul In Boxing Bout For Social Media Content

Nigerian social media content provider-cum-boxer, Olajide William ‘JJ’ Olatunji (aka KSI) has turned down an offer to fight American celebrity, Jake Paul in a blockbuster fight to draw online followers.

Sports247 gathered that, although ‘KSI’ could make a fortune from the proposed fight, the YouTuber and online personality not only rejected the deal he also formally announced his retirement from boxing.

It is a shock move by Olatunji, who pioneered the norm of using boxing for building social media content in the late 2010s and early 2020s, with two bouts against Jake Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, which attracted a combined 3.3million PPV buys.

Boxing buffs conjectured that Olatunji, who has not stepped into the roped square since suffering the first defeat of his career against Tommy Fury in October 2023, has apparently opted out because he felt shortchanged by his promoters.

KSI, who co-founded crossover promotions outfit, Misfits For Boxing (MFB) in 2022, and competed five times in the space of 14 months under the banner, had also been touted to again fight Fury, who overcame Paul in February 2023.

All of a sudden, Olatunji’s much-anticipated clash with Paul has been erased by his decision to hang his gloves, but the Nigerian content provider put the blame at the American celebrity’s doorstep.

KSI expatiated; “My main goal when I got into the boxing ring again was to fight Jake Paul and build Misfits.

“Build Misfits, try to fight Jake Paul time and time and time again, it’s just excuse after excuse after excuse. Instead of Tommy Fury, I was there ready to fight Jake Paul.

“Then at that point, I had to fight Tommy Fury. I think I tried to build up again to try and fight Jake again, and then he was just getting heavier and heavier.

“(He got) heavier trying to move the goal posts when it comes to weight. Then it got to the point where it was like, what am I doing? I’m done.”
