AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Storm into Quarter-Finals with Emphatic 4–0 Win Over Mozambique

Nigeria booked a commanding place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a ruthless 4–0 demolition of Mozambique in their Round of 16 clash at the Stade de Fès, Morocco.

The Super Eagles delivered one of their most complete performances of the tournament, blending pace, precision and clinical finishing to overwhelm their opponents and underline their title credentials.

It was Ademola Lookman who opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing confidently after being teed up by Akor Adams, as Nigeria’s early dominance finally told.

Five minutes later, Victor Osimhen doubled the lead, once again benefiting from Akor Adams’ unselfish play. The Napoli striker struck with authority to give Nigeria firm control before halftime.

Osimhen struck again shortly after the restart in the 47th minute, latching onto a perfectly weighted assist from Lookman to effectively end the contest. Mozambique struggled to cope with Nigeria’s tempo and movement, as the Super Eagles pressed relentlessly.

The rout was completed in the 75th minute, when Akor Adams capped a superb all-round performance with a well-taken goal, this time assisted by Lookman, completing a devastating attacking triangle on the night.

The clean sheet was a welcome boost for Nigeria after earlier defensive concerns, while the four-goal display showcased the depth and balance within the squad as the tournament reaches its decisive phase.

With the victory, Nigeria move straight into the quarter-finals, extending their perfect run at AFCON 2025 and sending a clear message to the remaining contenders.

The Super Eagles will now await their next opponent as they continue their quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.
