Chelle Shuts Down Questions on Osimhen–Lookman Row, Keeps Focus on Nigeria’s AFCON Charge

Super Eagles head coach Eric Sekhou Chelle cut a satisfied figure after Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the AFCON Round of 16, revealing that the scoreline fulfilled a personal pre-match ambition.

“Before the game, I said my dream was to score four goals against Mozambique, and today it happened,” Chelle disclosed with a smile.

The Nigerian tactician expressed his joy at the performance and result, emphasizing the importance of positivity within the team.

“I actually love this game. I’m very happy for the win — we just won. If you want to be ambitious, positive dynamics come more easily than negative ones, and vice versa,” he said.

Chelle also praised the organisation of the tournament, noting that it has helped the Super Eagles maintain focus.

“This AFCON has been very well organised. There are no distractions, so we stay focused on our training sessions. I’m impressed with the Super Eagles. I focus on my job and on my team,” he added.

When asked about the on-field disagreement between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, Chelle firmly shut down the discussion.

“I will not tell you anything about what happened between Osimhen and Lookman. What happens between my players stays in-house and not for public consumption,” he stated.

Looking ahead to the quarter-finals, where Nigeria will face Algeria or DR Congo, Chelle stressed the need for continued concentration.

“Like I said, I am very happy with the players. They played a good game. Now we must prepare and focus on Algeria or DR Congo. My dream is to stay focused and show our best on the pitch,” he said.

The coach acknowledged areas that still require improvement, particularly communication in attack and solidity at the back.

“We share the same concerns, but we try to improve every day. We must work on all departments — defense, midfield, and attack — to be in better shape for the next game,” Chelle concluded.

Nigeria’s dominant display further underlined their title credentials as the Super Eagles continue their quest for continental glory with confidence and growing belief.
