AFCON 2025: Chelle Thanks Super Eagles’ Players For Good Results, Targets Continuous Improvement

Super Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle has sent words of appreciation to his players for picking up good results at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but added the need for them to keep on improving.

Sports247 reports that the Franco-Malian gaffer appeared relaxed, heading into Monday’s round of 16 battle with Mozambique, but confessed that he is under pressure about the right tactics and starting line-up to use.

Chelle added, “We have to say thank you to the players. My job is to think about the identity of the nation and the image of Nigeria.

“I work on the game project, and we have to say thank you to the players for adapting well to my game project. I just give my opinion and my vision; they play it on the pitch.

“I share my consultation with every player about my plan for each game. They are on the pitch and give me answers everyday.”

Chelle continued by stressing that the mission of winning AFCON 2025 is a joint task that has to be faced by everyone connected to the squad – players, technical crew, backroom staff and football federation officials.

He stated, “After every game, my job is to analyse how it went and try to see us improve. This is not a question about only me.

“It’s about the whole team, including all the officials and, of course, the players. We are all focused on what happens day after day.”

The gaffer concluded by urging the players to continue maintaining good behaviour in camp and on the pitch, which he believes is the right approach that would help them overcome distractions in each game.

“We have to commend the players’ behaviour so far. We have a plan together, and the most important thing is how they face our training sessions.

“My job is to work with my players, try to analyse every game and see how we can improve every day. We want to continue to concentrate on the group and improve every day,” Chelle stressed.
