Nigeria’s Super Eagles have shifted their full attention to their Round of 16 encounter against Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with head coach Eric Chelle and captain Wilfred Ndidi insisting the team remains focused, disciplined, and ready to take the next step in the tournament.
Speaking at the pre match conference ahead of the crucial fixture, scheduled for Fes in Monday, 19:00 GMT, Ndidi revealed that confidence within the camp is high following the group-stage performances, but stressed that complacency has no place in the team’s mindset.

“The team spirit is very high, and everyone is ready,” Ndidi said. “We know what is at stake and we understand that the competition is really just starting now. Our focus is clear and we are taking it one game at a time.”
The Super Eagles captain emphasized that the players are fully committed to the coaching crew’s long-term plan, noting that progression at the tournament will depend on maintaining concentration and executing instructions effectively.
“We are focused on the project,” he added. “We will take it game after game. Right now, our attention is only on Mozambique. After that, we will look at the next match.”
Head coach Eric Chelle echoed his captain’s sentiments, describing the knockout phase as a fresh challenge that demands even greater discipline and improvement from his squad.
“This is a new stage and, in many ways, a new competition,” Chelle said.
“We must stay focused, continue to improve as a group, and make sure we win the game tomorrow.”
The Super Eagles are aiming to secure a place in the quarter-finals as they continue their quest for continental glory, knowing that any slip-up at this stage would bring their AFCON 2025 campaign to an abrupt end.
