AFCON 2025: Uzoho Embraces Competition, Says Focus Is Always Team First

Speaking from Nigeria’s camp in Fès ahead of the knockout stage, Uzoho described the competition among the goalkeepers as healthy and necessary for the team’s progress. He explained that every player understands their role and responsibility, regardless of whether they start matches or support from the bench.

The Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper stressed that his mindset is not about competing against teammates, but about maintaining fitness, sharpness and concentration so he can deliver if called upon. According to him, the success of the Super Eagles always comes before individual ambition.

Uzoho added that the technical crew has created an environment where all players feel valued and prepared, which has helped foster unity within the squad. He noted that goalkeepers, in particular, must always stay mentally strong, as opportunities can come unexpectedly during tournaments.

With Nigeria heading into the Round of 16 against Mozambique on Monday, 5 January, Uzoho believes depth and internal competition will play a key role as the Super Eagles chase a fourth AFCON title.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the team, saying his duty is simple: stay ready, stay focused and give his best whenever Nigeria calls.
