AFCON 2025: Cyriel Dessers Gets Farewell Message From Super Eagles’ Backroom Staff

Panathinaikos of Greece striker, Cyriel Dessers has received a warm farewell message from the Super Eagles’ backroom staff, following his painful exit from the team’s hostel on Friday.

Sports247 gathered that the former Glasgow Rangers of Scotland striker, who has a Belgian father and Nigerian mother, returned to his club due to complications arising from a nagging thigh injury.

With the injury proving impervious to treatment all through his stay at the Eagles’ camp in Fes, Morocco, Dessers became redundant, as he could neither play nor train, thereby necessitating his exit.

An official of the Eagles has now revealed that they all felt deeply sad for the mulatto star, who was top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie during his days at Heracles Ermelo.

After undergoing a scan to assess the injury, the 31-year-old striker, who has three goals for the Nigerian team, headed back to his Greek club to continue his recovery process.

The official told Flashscore: “It is a big blow for us, because we all know what he brings to the group. It’s a tough reality to deal with.

“Everyone knew how much he was looking forward to this competition. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back in the future.”
