Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has opened up about finally getting his chance at the Africa Cup of Nations, describing his back-to-back appearances in the competition as a defining moment in his international career.
Reflecting on the previous AFCON tournament, Onyemaechi revealed that opportunities were hard to come by under former head coach José Peseiro.

“The last AFCON, I was begging for the opportunity, but José Peseiro didn’t give me,” Onyemaechi said.
This tournament, however, has marked a turning point. The defender has featured in consecutive games for the first time at AFCON, a development he attributes to patience, faith, and readiness.
“I give God all the glory,” he added. “I have learned one thing here — you need to utilise every opportunity you are given.”
Onyemaechi’s comments underline the importance of perseverance at the highest level, where chances can be limited but careers are often shaped by how players respond when trust is finally shown.
His growing involvement offers the Super Eagles added stability and competition in defence as the tournament progresses.
