Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s Round of 16 clash against Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Adams said suggestions that history could repeat itself hold no weight with the players. According to him, the team refuses to be defined by past outcomes.
The forward explained that repeating failures only happens when the same patterns remain unchanged, stressing that this Super Eagles group has evolved both mentally and tactically.
He noted that the squad is made up of different personalities, stronger cohesion and a clearer understanding of what is required at tournament football.
Adams added that the team’s perfect group-stage record has boosted confidence, but insisted that no one is getting carried away.
He emphasized that knockout matches demand discipline, focus and maturity, qualities the players are determined to show when they face Mozambique.
The Sevilla striker also highlighted the importance of staying present, saying the team’s attention is on preparation, recovery and execution rather than external noise or narratives.
Nigeria will meet Mozambique on 5 January in Fès, with Adams confident the Super Eagles are ready to write a new chapter at AFCON 2025, one built on consistency, belief and collective responsibility rather than the weight of past tournaments.
