AFCON 2025: Wilfred Ndidi Brushes Aside Round Of 16 Forecasts, Says Super Eagles Focus Is On Uganda

Super Eagles’ captain, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi has brushed aside speculation about the team’s likely opponents in the round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, saying their focus is only on Tuesday’s match versus Uganda.

Sports247 reports that Ndidi also parried worries about a likely repeat of the Eagles’ shock exit in the round of 16 at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, stressing that all they are thinking about is to defeat Uganda in their last group game.

The Eagles need only a draw to keep them top of Group C and assure them of playing their next round game at the same venue in Fes, but Ndidi hinted that they will seek victory against the East Africans.

“We are not thinking about 2021, and we are not thinking about the last game, because our focus now is on the next one,” Ndidi stressed at the pre-match press conference.

He added, “We only looked at the last game because we wanted to make corrections on things we did badly and check things we should have done well.

“We are not thinking about 2021, because this is 2025, We are not even thinking of the next round, because the next game is the most important one for now.”
