AFCON 2025: Patrick Pascal Says Super Eagles Cannot be Underestimated by Tunisia

Former Super Eagles international and current team manager Patrick Pascal has insisted that Nigeria remain a dangerous side at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, warning that no opponent can afford to underrate the Super Eagles.

Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s Group C clash against Tunisia in Fès, Pascal stressed that despite recent mixed performances, the Super Eagles still command respect across the continent.

“Nigeria cannot be underrated by any opponent,” Pascal said. “No team will be comfortable facing even two top Nigerian defenders, whether they play locally or abroad.”

Pascal acknowledged that Tunisia are a strong and well-organised side but emphasized that African football has evolved, with every team arriving at the tournament fully prepared to compete.

“African football has changed. Every team here is serious and competing at a high level,” he noted.

The former defender explained that the Super Eagles’ blend of experience and quality gives them the tools to challenge any opponent when fully focused and disciplined.

“This will not be an easy game for either side,” Pascal added. “Tunisia are strong, but Nigeria also have quality players who can make the difference.”

Pascal called on the Super Eagles to approach the match with confidence but also with humility, stressing the importance of collective effort rather than individual brilliance.

“At tournaments like this, it’s about the team, not individuals,” he said.

Nigeria go into the Tunisia match aiming to build on their opening 2–1 win over Tanzania, knowing that another positive result would place them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages.

For Pascal, the message is simple: respect the opponent, but never doubt Nigeria’s strength.

“This team has what it takes,” he concluded.
