A section of the sports media in Tanzania has admitted that Nigeria’s Super Eagles have an upper hand over their national team, Taifa Stars, and acknowledged that they will have to dig deep in order to win Tuesday’s match.
Sports247 reports that, with both teams set to kick-start their campaigns in Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the media in Dar-Es-Salaam and other cities across Tanzania are already apprehensive of their fate.

One of the writers, Michael Mwebe of The Guardian admitted that Nigeria’s strong pedigree, which includes three AFCON titles and three victories against Tanzania makes them favourites to win Tuesday’s game.
He also noted that the presence of Victor Osimhen in Nigeia’s attack makes the Super Eagles a very lethal team, and Tanzania’s defenders will have to be on their toes for all 90 minutes plus added time in order to avoid conceding many goals.
Mwebe stated in part: “Tanzania’s Taifa Stars have been handed one of the tournament’s most demanding group assignments.
“Taifa Stars, coached by the Argentine Miguel Gamondi, will begin their campaign on December 23 against three-time champions Nigeria at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.
“Securing a historic knockout-stage berth from this group will demand exceptional performance against these opponents who have the upper hand.
“Nigeria, currently holding a FIFA Ranking of 38, represents an immediate and significant challenge for Tanzania.
“The primary threat comes from the team’s key player, forward Victor Osimhen, who leads Nigeria’s attack with pace, aerial ability, and clinical finishing.
“Head Coach Chelle has been tasked with harnessing this immense individual talent and building a championship-winning tactical structure.”
