The visitors made a fast start and took an early lead in the 5th minute when Osimaga Duke found the net, momentarily silencing the home crowd. However, Barau FC showed resilience and composure, gradually growing into the contest.

The hosts drew level in the 25th minute from the penalty spot through Usman Maidubji, who calmly finished to score his second goal of the season and restore parity.

Barau FC continued to apply pressure and were rewarded just before halftime as Jimmy Ambrose put the hosts ahead in stoppage time, finishing off a well-worked move assisted by Nura Ibrahim to make it 2–1 at the break.

The second half belonged entirely to Barau FC. In the 64th minute, Kabir Abdullahi extended the lead with his first goal of the game, before doubling his tally eight minutes later.

His second strike of the afternoon, set up by Muhd Umar, sealed a memorable outing for the forward and took his season tally to two goals.

Barau FC further strengthened their midfield with the introduction of Sa’ad Tijjani, who made his first appearance of the season in the 69th minute, replacing Stanley Oganbor as the home side maintained control of the game.

The result represents a significant statement from Barau FC, handing Rivers United a heavy defeat and denting their bid to extend their lead at the top of the NPFL standings.

For the Kano-based side, it was a performance marked by belief, clinical finishing, and tactical discipline—one that will boost confidence as the season progresses.
