The Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has upheld several sanctions imposed on Kano Pillars and Katsina United by the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), while making slight modifications to some of the penalties.
In a statement following its meeting on Wednesday, the committee confirmed that Kano Pillars failed to provide adequate and effective security during their NPFL home fixture against Shooting Stars Sports Club.
The lapses reportedly allowed unauthorised persons access to restricted areas of the stadium, alongside other infringements committed by home supporters
The committee noted that the conduct of Kano Pillars supporters was capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
As a result, it upheld the ₦3 million fine imposed on the club, in addition to a further ₦1.5 million awarded as compensatory damages to match officials, in line with Article C.12 of the NPFL Framework and Rules.
Furthermore, the committee sustained the deduction of three points and three goals from Kano Pillars’ accumulated tally for the assault on match officials.
However, it reviewed the earlier sanction on the Sani Abacha Stadium, reducing the indefinite closure to a five-match stadium ban, to run concurrently from the date of the sanction.
On the appeal filed by Katsina United against the NPFL’s decision following their match against Barau FC, the committee also found the club culpable.
Katsina United were adjudged to have failed in providing adequate security and ensuring proper conduct of their supporters, leading to the harassment of the away team’s players and officials.
While the committee partially upheld the ₦3 million fine imposed on Katsina United, it reduced the banishment from their home ground to the Jos City Stadium to a five-match ban.
The NFF reiterated its commitment to enforcing discipline, safety, and fair play across all NPFL fixtures, warning clubs to take responsibility for crowd control and matchday security.
