Lagos To Host Former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Deontay Wilder In 2026?

American former world heavyweight boxing champion, Deontay Wilder could be on his way to Lagos for a mega-fight sometime next year, Sports247 gathered.

The prospects of Lagos boxing fans and residents getting a glimpse of ‘The Bronze Bomber’ comes on the heels of a hint by British former world champion, Amir Khan.

The retired lower division superstar, who is now a boxing promoter, revealed that the plan for Wilder to fight in Lagos will include Nigerian-born rival, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua.

In effect, Khan is thinking of pitting Joshua head-to-head with Wilder in a potentially explosive blockbuster heavyweight fight next year.

Khan has already set up another Nigerian-born England-based heavyweight, Lawrence Okolie to tango Ghana’s Ebenezer Tetteh this Sunday at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, in Onikan area of Lagos Island.

His bext hope is to go a step further, especially after noting that Joshua, whose parents were born in Nigeria, promised to fight in Africa before his career is over, and his fellow-Brit is planning on helping him achieve his vow.

The 39-year-old Khan told SunSport: “We opened the door to boxing in Africa. Amir Khan promotions did and now we’re doing another show December 21.

“Lawrence Okolie came to the first one that we did in the summer, and he said, ‘Look, I wanna fight over here,’ so I made it happen straight away.

“I think if Deontay wants to fight there, we’ll have a little sit down with him. We can make a fight happen for him quite easily.”
