Uganda Mean Business! Omedi Says Cranes Ready to Shock AFCON Group After Strong Morocco Test

Ugandan forward Dennis Omedi has declared that the Cranes are ready to impress when the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco, insisting that confidence within the squad is growing rapidly following their final tune-up matches.

Omedi was speaking after scoring the opening goal in Uganda’s 2–2 draw against Moroccan giants AS FAR, a result that further boosted belief inside the Cranes’ camp just days before AFCON gets underway.

“We are confident. We have prepared well, and with our fans behind us, we believe we can do something special at AFCON,” Omedi said.

The striker stressed that Uganda are not traveling to Morocco to make up the numbers, but to compete strongly and push for qualification from the group stage.

“The goal is to come out of the group and reach the next round. We know it will not be easy, but we are ready to work hard,” he added.

Uganda are drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania, a challenging group that has drawn significant attention ahead of the tournament. Omedi acknowledged the quality of the opposition but insisted the Cranes are undeterred.

“We respect every team, but we also believe in ourselves. That draw against AS FAR showed we can compete at a high level,” he said.

He credited the team’s preparation, unity, and mental strength for their growing confidence, noting that the coaching staff have drilled discipline and belief into the squad.

“Preparation has been very important for us. The coach has helped us understand our roles, and everyone is committed,” Omedi explained.

The forward also highlighted the importance of fan support, especially for a team aiming to upset more established football nations.

“When the fans believe in us, it gives us extra motivation. We will fight for them in every match,” he added.

With momentum building and AFCON fast approaching, Omedi believes Uganda are ready to surprise many on the continent.

“People may not expect much from us, but we are ready to prove ourselves when the tournament begins,” he concluded.
