Chelsea delivered a commanding performance to secure a 3–0 victory over Brighton in the Women’s Super League, with the Seagulls struggling to cope in the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
The breakthrough came in the 43rd minute when Sam Kerr’s pressure paid off, allowing S. Baltimore to fire Chelsea into the lead after a well-timed assist from A. Thompson. Brighton held on until halftime but found themselves under increasing pressure as the visitors pushed for more.
Just six minutes into the second half, Brighton’s situation worsened. A dangerous Chelsea delivery caused confusion in the box, resulting in an own goal by Caitlin Hayes in the 51st minute, doubling the Blues’ advantage.
Chelsea maintained control of the match, dominating possession and limiting Brighton’s attacking threat. The third and final goal arrived in the 73rd minute, with A. Thompson getting on the scoresheet after a fine assist from S. Kerr, capping off a dominant display from the league contenders.
Brighton struggled defensively throughout the encounter, and the absence of Nnadozie was evident as Chelsea capitalised on key moments to seal a comfortable win.
The result further strengthens Chelsea’s position in the WSL title race, while Brighton will look to regroup and address their defensive issues ahead of their next fixture.
