Team Nigeria won three gold medals in Athletics on Saturday at the ongoing African Youth Games (AYG) in Angola,

In the girls’ sprints, Tejiri Ugoh delivered a commanding performance to win gold in the 200m, clocking 23.95 seconds.
She finished ahead of South Africa’s Isabella Gunter (25.38s) and Gambia’s Njie Adama (26.01s). In the boys’ 200m,
Nigeria also reached the podium as Perfect Faye claimed silver with a time of 21.47s, while South Africa’s Jayden Fourie took gold in 20.88s.
Nigeria struck gold again in the quarter-mile as Hafsoh Majekodunmi emerged champion in the girls’ 400m, posting a winning time of 55.16s.
Ethiopia’s Desta Kurni settled for silver (56.74s), with Congo’s Maguerita Athouaby taking bronze (58.22s). In the boys’ 400m, South Africa’s Fairlie Jaydon won gold in 47.66s, while Nigeria’s David Udoh secured silver in 47.77s.
Ghana’s Agyaemang Evans completed the podium with bronze (48.23s).
The 100m events also proved fruitful for Nigeria. Rosemary Chigozie powered to gold in the girls’ 100m, crossing the line in 11.77s.
South Africa’s Oluchi Ndubueze took silver (12.12s), while Morocco’s Maria Saadi claimed bronze (12.27s). In the boys’ 100m, Nigeria’s Emmanuel Akolo ran 10.76s to earn silver, finishing behind South Africa’s Micah Africa, who won gold in 10.67s. Namibia’s Mouton Miheshco secured bronze in 10.78s.
In the field events, Nigeria added another medal as Godswill Anelechi Nkemakolam claimed silver in the boys’ long jump with a best leap of 7.18m.
South Africa’s Jayden Fourie won gold with 7.59m, his second gold medal of the Games, while Algeria’s Leith Bencharef took bronze.
Team Nigeria continues to build momentum in at the African Youth Games as the continent’s emerging talents continue to showcase their potential.
