Coach Expose What New Signee, Super Falcons’ Chioma Okafor, Brings to North Carolina Courage

North Carolina Courage head coach Ceri Bowley has detailed the qualities that make newly signed Super Falcons forward Chioma Okafor an exciting addition to the club following her move to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side.

Okafor, who was part of Nigeria’s squad that won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations—though she did not feature during the tournament—signed a three-year deal with the Courage on Wednesday.

The move continues her steady rise after completing an impressive collegiate career at the University of Connecticut.

Bowley expressed strong enthusiasm about bringing the 22-year-old attacker into his squad, describing her as a dynamic, fearless forward whose attributes align perfectly with the club’s football philosophy.

“We’re excited to welcome Chioma Okafor to the North Carolina Courage.”

“Chioma is a dynamic, fearless attacker whose pace, power, and willingness to take on defenders bring dimensions we’ve been looking to add to our front line,” Bowley said.

He further highlighted her mentality as a major factor behind the decision to sign her, noting that her character fits seamlessly into the team’s culture and long-term vision.

“Beyond her on-field qualities, Chioma brings a competitive edge and a growth mindset that fits the culture we’re building. She works, she listens, and she’s hungry to develop.

We’re delighted Chioma is joining the Courage, and we’re looking forward to integrating her into our squad,” Bowley added.

Okafor’s arrival represents another significant step in her development as she prepares to compete in one of the world’s most competitive women’s football leagues.

The former UConn standout is expected to bolster the Courage’s attacking options as they gear up for the new campaign.

Internationally, Okafor—who chose to represent Nigeria over Malawi—is still awaiting her first senior cap for the Super Falcons.

With the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations approaching, she may finally earn her debut as Nigeria seeks an unprecedented 11th continental title.
