Destiny Udogie Recalls How ‘Family Support’ Helped Him During Setbacks At Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur of England defender, Destiny Udogie has revealed that had to lean on members of his family during a period when he faced some setbacks at the EPL club.

Sports247 gathered that the biggest hurdle for the Nigerian-born Italy international was an injury he copped early this season, and the youngster admitted it was a tough hurdle for him to scale.

He also recalled how he had to ward off emotional pressure during his first spell at Spurs, as he was sent back on loan to Udinese of Italy after struggling to settle down in London.

That happened after Udogie initially joined Tottenham from the Italian club in 2022 but had to be loaned back to the Serie A outfit for a season before returning to North London a year later.

He has since achieved more than 80 outings for Spurs and was in their starting eleven that defeated Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final last season.

That meant he was part of the squad that got Spurs’ first major trophy in 17 years, but he has been ruled out with two injury blights this season, owing to niggling pain in his knees.

Incidentally Udogie, who played 90 minutes versus Newcastle United on Tuesday night, was again seen hobbling towards the end of their 2-2 draw.

Consequently, he was a notable absentee from Spurs’ squad on Saturday, and the coach, Thomas Frank said after their 2-0 win against Brentford that the 23-year-old Udogie had sustained a ‘soft tissue injury’ in the Newcastle match.

Udogie, who was recently threatened with a gun by a players’ agent, told 442, “I had some setbacks, but I’m feeling good and I just want to make sure I stay fit now.

“Obviously as a player you always want to play, so when you stay out of the team it’s not easy, but I’ve got my family and they help me every day.”
