The Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) second vice-president, Aku Aghazu Chineze has showered encomiums on Nilayo Sports Promotions Limited for putting together what she referred to as a ‘great’ half-marathon in Abuja.
While also heaping accolades on the sponsor, Premium Trust Bank, Aghazu told Sports247 that she equally felt elated being able to participate in Saturday’s event and complete it.
She also pointed out that it was not just a race or event meant to be seen only as a competition, but mostly a running activity that buttressed the need for keep fit activities among Nigerians.
The AFN top-shot expatiated, “It’s all about promoting fitness. That’s the biggest motive of this half-marathon – getting people outside to ensure they stay healthy and are happy.
“Running makes you happy, and the half-marathon is a warm-up race that helps to keep you fit. That’s why I was able to complete the course, to the glory of God.”
The amiable lady also explained the difference between engaging in running and racing, the first which she pointed out helps to improve fitness while the other refers to engaging in competitive activity.
“I was involved in this event as a marathon runner, not a racer. I did not take it as a race, but as a Saturday run-around, which I wanted to enjoy.
“I also had to encourage a lot of people on the course, which meant I had to run slower than I usually do. So, I am happy with the way I ran and the time in which I finished.”
Aghazu rounded off by reeling out encomiums, saying: “I must commend Nilayo for promoting a race like this and their partners, Premium Trust Bank for sponsoring it.
“I am excited to be part of this well organised event. I give them great kudos for putting up a race of this magnitude and broad appeal that makes everybody happy. They deserve a high level of commendations.”
