Siasia Rallies Eagles: ‘Forget the World Cup Failure — Give Everything for AFCON 2025’

Former Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia has thrown his weight behind Nigeria ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (21 Dec 2025 – 18 Jan 2026), urging the players to give their absolute best and restore pride after the recent World Cup disappointment.

Siasia, one of Nigeria’s most accomplished coaches at youth and senior level, said the talent in the squad has never been the issue, insisting that Nigeria still has a team capable of making a deep run in Morocco.

“The players’ qualities have never been in doubt. One setback in World Cup qualifying doesn’t change that,” Siasia stated.

He praised the provisional AFCON squad released by coach Eric Sekou Chelle, calling on Nigerians to unite behind the coach rather than criticize his early selections.

“We must support the coach and the players he has invited. This is not the time for division or arguments. It’s time to rally behind the team,” he added.

Siasia emphasized that AFCON tournaments often reward teams that show hunger, discipline, and unity, values he believes the current squad must embody to compete effectively.

“AFCON is a tournament where desire matters. The boys must give their all, fight for every ball, and play for the badge,” he said.

The former coach also urged the players to use the tournament as an opportunity for redemption, reminding them that Nigerians still expect excellence despite recent disappointments.

“This AFCON is a chance to make Nigerians proud again. The team must take it seriously and show character,” he noted.

Siasia, known for nurturing top talents like Mikel Obi and Victor Obinna, believes Nigeria’s success depends on the players embracing responsibility and performing with confidence.

“They must step onto the pitch believing they can win. The ability is there, t’s the mentality that matters now,” he said.

He concluded with a message of hope for the nation:

“Nigeria can have a very good tournament. With full commitment and national support, the Super Eagles will do well in Morocco.”
