NWFL Premiership Matchday Two: Late Goals Steal the Headlines Across Nigeria

Matchday Two of the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership delivered drama, tension, and a flurry of late goals as clubs across the country battled for early-season momentum.

From Uyo to Ado-Ekiti, decisive moments came in the dying minutes, shaping what was an intense round of fixtures.

In Lagos’ Group A, Dannaz Ladies and Nasarawa Amazons played out a cagey 0–0 draw, with both sides failing to convert several half-chances.

It was an disciplined defensive showing from both teams, but neither could find the breakthrough.

In Benin City, Edo Queens continued their strong start to the season with a narrow 1–0 victory over Heartland Queens, thanks to a 15th-minute strike from Atume Doosuur. The hosts controlled large spells of the game and held firm to claim all three points.

Uyo served late drama as Ibom Angels edged Pacesetters Queens 1–0, with Helen Daniel’s 87th-minute winner sparking celebrations at the Godswill Akpabio practice pitch. It was a well-earned win for the home side after sustained second-half pressure.

In Ile-Ogbo, Osun Babes also left it late, securing a 1–0 victory over Ahudiyannem Queens via an 87th-minute penalty calmly converted by Nofisat Tijani. The home team showed resilience and composure under pressure to register their first win of the season.

Over in Ikenne, Remo Stars Ladies claimed a solid 1–0 win against Abia Angels, courtesy of a 25th-minute effort from Aisha Animashaun. The Ogun-based side managed the game well and maintained their lead to full time.

Asaba witnessed a goalless but hard-fought contest as Delta Queens and Sunshine Queens shared the points in a 0–0 draw.

The most dramatic finish came in Ado-Ekiti, where Ekiti Queens held Adamawa Queens to a 1–1 draw. Mary Sunday had given Adamawa the lead in the 55th minute, but a 90+2-minute own goal by Favour Godwin ensured the hosts salvaged a point in a tense finale.
