Fago Lawal Celebrates Dream AFCON Call: ‘It’s a Privilege, My Teammates Are Proud of Me’

Nigerian forward Salim Fago Lawal has expressed heartfelt joy after being named in the Super Eagles’ preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing it as a dream come true and one of the proudest moments of his career.

The young striker said he was stunned when he saw his name on the provisional list for the AFCON tournament scheduled for 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, explaining that the recognition means everything to him.

“It’s a dream come true. A big privilege to be considered for the national team,” Fago Lawal said with excitement.

He revealed that the news also sent a wave of happiness through his club dressing room, with teammates celebrating his achievement and insisting that he fully deserves the recognition.

“My teammates were very proud of me when they heard the news. They told me I earned it with my hard work,” he said.

Fago Lawal emphasised that representing Nigeria at any level is a huge honour, and being considered for AFCON, one of the biggest tournaments in world football, s an opportunity he does not take lightly.

“Wearing the national colours is a big responsibility. I am ready for it. I want to give my best if selected,” he added.

Despite being on the preliminary list, the striker knows he must continue pushing both mentally and physically to secure a spot in the final squad.

“This is just the beginning. I have to keep working hard. Nothing is guaranteed yet,” he cautioned.

Fago Lawal expressed hope that Nigeria will have a strong showing in Morocco, saying the team has enough talent and determination to make the nation proud.

“The Super Eagles have the quality to go far. I believe we can do well at this AFCON,” he said.

He ended with a message of gratitude to fans and coaches who have supported him along the way.

“I’m grateful for the love. I won’t take this chance for granted. I’ll give everything for Nigeria.”
