Mama of Africa FC booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Ibro Peckham Football Competition (8th Edition) after a tense and dramatic 2–1 victory over Great Vision FC in the Round of 16 at the Champions Arena – NUD Playing Ground, Olose.
The match delivered a blend of quality finishing, individual brilliance, and late-game controversy, with forward Fatai Yusuf emerging as the standout performer after scoring twice to lead his side into the last eight.
Mama of Africa FC started the match with clear intent, controlling possession and dictating the tempo. Their early dominance paid off in the 27th minute when Fatai Yusuf rose above his marker to nod home a well-delivered cross, giving his side a deserved 1–0 lead.
The goal sparked confidence across the squad, with Mama of Africa FC maintaining composure both on and off the ball.
Despite their disciplined first-half performance, Mama of Africa FC were pegged back in the 54th minute when a costly goalkeeping mistake handed Great Vision FC a lifeline. A moment of miscommunication and mishandling opened the door for the opponents to level the score at 1–1.
The equaliser shifted momentum briefly in Great Vision’s favour, forcing Mama of Africa to regroup quickly.
In the 63rd minute, Yusuf delivered again—this time with a moment of pure quality. Awarded a free kick right at the edge of the opponent’s penalty area, he curled a precise effort beyond the goalkeeper to restore Mama of Africa FC’s lead at 2–1.
The strike ignited celebrations from the touchline as well as the stands, reaffirming Yusuf’s importance to the squad.
The closing stages were anything but routine. With four minutes of added time, Mama of Africa FC’s goalkeeper rose for an aerial clearance inside his box. The resulting contact sparked an uproar from Great Vision FC, who felt they deserved a penalty.
Tensions escalated when Great Vision FC disputed the referee’s decision to award fair play instead of a penalty call. Their dissatisfaction grew into a full-blown protest, ultimately leading to the team abandoning the match in the final minutes.
Despite the dramatic ending, Mama of Africa FC’s overall performance—and particularly Fatai Yusuf’s brace—proved enough to secure a quarter-final berth in the prestigious grassroots tournament.
With momentum on their side and confidence flowing through the squad, Mama of Africa FC will now look ahead to the next phase against Integrity FC with belief, composure, and one of the competition’s in-form attackers leading the charge.
