PremiumTrust Bank Abuja Half Marathon Set For World-Class Show As Yusuf Alli Promises Record-Breaking Second Edition

With just five days to go before the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City Half Marathon on December 6, the event’s Technical Director and three-time Olympian, Yusuf Alli, has assured that Abuja is set to host a world-class race that will elevate its fast-rising global reputation.

Alli described the marathon as a rare success story on the continent, noting that its rapid ascent has already placed it among Africa’s elite distance-running events.

“The PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City Half Marathon is the only marathon in our clime to get a label after just one edition,” he said. “It’s fantastic, and it’s because of the structured, seamless organisation of the event.”

He added that the second edition will surpass the debut, with preparations already in top gear.

“With the second edition, we will go higher. We’re expecting top-tier elite runners from around the world — those within the top 300 — including from Ethiopia and Kenya.”

Alli also reaffirmed the race’s commitment to global technical standards and integrity.

“We will have doping tests. We’ve completed the blue marking of the route and will conduct a road tour with the athletes when they arrive.”

The December 6 race is expected to draw elite athletes, recreational runners, fitness groups, and spectators from across Nigeria and beyond, further positioning Abuja as one of Africa’s emerging hubs for high-level road racing.

With its growing international profile, the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City Half Marathon is on course to become one of the continent’s most prestigious running events.
