Rivers United of Port Harcourt coach, Finidi George has confessed that the team’s 2-1 loss at home to RSC Berkane of Morocco in the CAF Champions League was a devastating result for his side, Sports247 reports.
The Garden City outfit appeared to be cruising to victory after full 90 minutes of regulation time, but the Moroccans amazingly struck twice in added time to hand Finidi’s team a second straight defeat in the CCL’s group stage.

Finidi took another look at the run of play, then praised his players for their efforts and posited that they were so unfortunate not to have settled for at least a draw.
The former Super Eagles’ fearsome winger, who played for Ajax of Netherlands, Real Betis of Spain and Ipswich Town of England, noted: “A draw would have been fair enough; but this loss is devastating.
“However, overall, I think my players deserved more than they got with the outcome of this game.
“It’s quite unfortunate that we lost the way we did, and it’s something that I can’t explain. It’s also quite unfortunate that, in the additional nine minutes, we couldn’t manage the game properly.”
He concluded by pointing out that a big lesson that his players learnt was that modern-day football does not end in 90 minutes, as additional time often comes up, and that is when they need to maintain their highest level of concentration.
“I think my players did well in the 90 minutes of normal time. But football nowadays is more than 90 minutes, and you have to concentrate fully until the end,” the ex-international fondly called ‘Finito’ stressed.
