Tani Oluwaseyi’s Goal Keeps Villarreal In Contention For ‘Unlikely’ La Liga Title

Villarreal of Spain attacker, Tanitoluwa Oluwatimilehin Oluwaseyi was The Yellow Submarine’s undisputed hero on Saturday, as his timely goal kept them in contention for an unlikely conquest of La Liga.

Sports247 reports that Oluwaseyi, fondly called Tani, got off Villarreal’s bench in the 63rd minute and hit a decisive goal in the 83rd to help the home side defeat Real Mallorca 2-1.

The result took Villarreal up to 29 points on the log of La Liga – just two behind leaders FC Barcelona on 31, same with second placed Real Madrid, who have a game in hand.

All accolades for the feat went to Tani, who was born in Abuja on May 15, 2000, but moved with his family to Canada at age 10 and is already cap-tied to his adopted country.

Though not much had previously been heard about Tani until Saturday’s fixture in La Liga, he is already well-celebrated in Canada, with which he has two goals in 21 games and is tipped to be an integral part of their team when they co-host the World Cup next year with USA and Mexico.

Heading into that big event, expectations are high that the new kid on the block will continue churning out great performances for his club, like the one that gave them bragging rights on Saturday.

A detailed match report by Tribal Football stated in part: “With time marching on, Villarreal fans will have been disheartened after a penalty of theirs was rightly overturned by VAR.

“But their mood was transformed late on, when Tajon Buchanan’s cross was ultimately turned in by fellow substitute Tani Oluwaseyi, after Mallorca captain Antonio Raillo had inadvertently diverted the ball into the Canadian’s path.”
