Former Super Eagles’ defender, Sam Sodje has added his voice to heated concern being raised about the current slide affecting Nigerian football and declared that there is a need for a quick intervention.
Sports247 reports that the former Brentford FC of England centre back noted that the Super Eagles’ inability to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is only the climax of a downward slide that began some years back across the whole structure of Nigerian football.

Sodje added that a decisive solution is urgently needed in order to get Nigeria out of the woods and quickly back on track, especially with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations already round the corner.
He further hinted that an urgent overhaul of the current leadership in Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) might be necessary in order to immediately put the best structure in place for a massive revival of the round leather game in the country.
“We need a quick intervention in the whole structure of the NFF and football as a whole in the country. To be honest, we should not be going through such pain.
“This miss has happened before, and it’s happening again. We can’t continue doing the same thing and expect a different result.
“We should do what is right for football in this country. The Nations Cup will be tough, but failing to win it would be tougher to take,” Sodje warned.
