Benson Idahosa University has emerged as the overall winner of the 27th Nigeria University Games (NUGA), asserting its dominance at the UniJos 2025 edition with a brilliant all-round performance.
The Benin-based institution topped the national medal table with an impressive haul of 25 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze medals, securing its place as the standout university of this year’s competition.

The week-long multisport festival, hosted by the University of Jos, brought together the best talents from universities across the country in an atmosphere charged with excitement, rivalry, and youthful brilliance.
From the track to the courts, the pools to the arenas, athletes gave everything as institutions battled for national supremacy.
University of Jos put up a commendable performance on home soil, finishing second with 18 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze medals, while the University of Benin followed closely in third place after amassing 15 gold, 9 silver, and 10 bronze medals.
Delta State University, Lagos State University, University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Uyo, Tai Solarin University of Education, and the University of Abuja all secured top–10 finishes, underlining the growing competitiveness and depth of university sports in Nigeria.
This year’s NUGA Games showcased not only athletic excellence but also the unity and spirit that define Nigerian student sports.
With new records set, fresh stars discovered, and memorable moments created, the 2025 edition found it’s place in history.
