Aubameyang Admits Super Eagles’ Superiority In Defence, Attack

Olympique Marseille of France striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has come out with a verdict that Nigeria’s squad was better than his Gabonese side in defence and attack during Thursday’s clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification play-offs in Rabat, Morocco.

Sports247 reports that a massive blitz in extra time saw the Super Eagles crush The Panthers 4-1 during the encounter, but the former Borussia Dortmund of Germany and Arsenal of England hitman reckoned that his inability to score affected his team during regulation time.

He conceded that a lot of expectations had been placed on him to make a huge difference for the Gabonese squad, but admitted that his aspirations were scuttled by the Eagles’ tight defence.

Aubameyang further pointed out that, in contrast with his lonesome responsibility up front for Gabon, Nigeria’s top striker, Victor Osimhen had a lot of support from other forwards in the Eagles’ squad.

He cited how Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke both scored before Osimhen hit home his brace of goals to put icing on the cake of Nigeria’s victory, which he noted pointed to the fact that the Nigerian squad is blessed with many options upfront.

“Nigeria’s defence line stopped me, but Victor Osimhen has great supporters. There are other incredible attackers supplying him with wonderful passes and crosses to provide a fine finish,” Aubameyang submitted.
