NNL: FIFA Agent Warns of Severe Consequences as Dakkada FC Withdraws From League

FIFA-licensed football agent Eddie Iseri Ogbemudia has warned that Dakkada FC may face serious consequences following their sudden withdrawal from the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

Dakkada FC officially pulled out after the NNL Board rejected their request to be placed in Conference B, which includes fellow Akwa Ibom club Akwa United.

Both teams are owned by the same entity, a situation that raised integrity concerns within the league.

A senior NNL official told Sports247 that the request was declined to safeguard the credibility of the competition.

“To maintain the integrity of the league, the request was rejected,” the official revealed. “A team cannot dictate the conference it wishes to play in; that is the league’s responsibility.

Their refusal to accept the decision led to their withdrawal, and the Board accepted it to prevent anything capable of undermining the competition.”

Reacting to the development, Ogbemudia expressed shock after confirming that the withdrawal was tied to the league’s refusal to group the club alongside Akwa United.

He questioned the rationale behind the action, saying it was not a valid justification for leaving the league.

“I want to believe there is more to it because I do not see this as a reason for pulling out,” he said.

The FIFA agent urged Dakkada’s management to reconsider their position, warning that the consequences could be far-reaching.

“I wish the club would rethink their stance; otherwise, Dakkada risk facing a multi-year ban from future league participation,” Ogbemudia cautioned.

He further highlighted the impact on players and officials already in camp preparing for the new season.

“These contracted players and staff may suffer career setbacks because they cannot immediately switch to other clubs after the transfer window has closed,” he noted.

Ogbemudia also stressed that Dakkada remain legally bound to honour all existing contracts despite their withdrawal.

“Failure to meet these financial commitments could lead to several claims before the NFF Players Status and Arbitration Committee,” he warned.

Formerly known as Akwa Comets and once a feeder team to Akwa United, Dakkada FC gained promotion to the NPFL in 2016 following their rebranding.

They remained in the topflight until their relegation after the 2021/2022 season.

Prior to pulling out, they were scheduled to begin their campaign away to Beyond Limit FA in Ikenne.

The NNL Board is expected to issue an official statement soon, detailing possible sanctions and adjustments to the league schedule following the club’s withdrawal.

The 2025/2026 NNL season kicked off last weekend in Lafia with a curtain-raiser between Basira FC and Mighty Jets, while the remaining week-one fixtures will be played this weekend.
