Osimhen Thanks, Super Eagles Teammates For Motivating Him After Missed Sitter

Super Eagles’ hitman, Victor Osimhen has sent words of appreciation to his colleagues in the Nigerian national team for standing by him after he missed a sitter against Gsbon at the 2026 World Cup play-offs in Morocco.

Sports247 reports that Osimhen could have ended the game during regulation time had he scored the last chance of the match deep into added time, at a point when the game was still locked at 1-1.

However, the Galatasaray of Turkey star unexpectedly failed to convert the one-on-one chance, and the Eagles had to rely on extra time to eventually win the game 4-1, with Osimhen storming back to hit home a brace.

The 2023 African Footballer of The Year has now taken his thoughts back to the aftermath of what could have been a costly miss and thanked his Eagles’ teammates for motivating him to shake off the disappointment, even as he apologised and promised to make it up to them.

“When I missed that big opportunity, I was really worried. I asked my teammates if the game would go straight into penalties, but they said there would be extra time. So, I told them I was sorry and that I would try to correct it in extra time.

“I’m happy that I corrected it, but it’s important to have such teammates who can motivate you while you try to motivate others.

“When you are down, they are there to try and make sure they bring you up. So, kudos to them for the support and kudos to us for the win,” Osimhen retorted.

Sports247 reports that Osimhen, who is now just six goals behind Nigeria’s all-time highest scorer, Rashidi Yekini (on 37), will get another chance to hit the net once again when the Eagles battle DR Congo in the plays-offs final on Sunday.
