The head coach of Surulere, Lagos-based Burna Boy FC, Chinedu Okezie has disclosed that the team is truly owned by the globally renowned singer and entertainer, Sports247 reports.
In contrast with speculation that operators of the club are merely using the tag of ‘Burna Boy’ to draw widespread attention their way, Okezie told Sports247 in an exclusive interview that the afrobeat artiste actually owns the team.

Although he admitted that Burna Boy (whose real bame is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu) hardly turns up to witness the club’s activities, Okezie disclosed that he has felt the singer’s presence in various dimensions since he became the head coach last year.
The former defender at Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia and erstwhile head coach at their sister team, Abia Comets, also thanked the chairman of Burna Boy FC, Abu Salami, for keeping the team abuzz while the owner is busy forwarding his music career.
The youthful coach, who was at Abia Warriors from 2009 to 2013, disclosed: “I’m happy to be here with Burna Boy FC. The team is truly owned by Burna Boy, and it’s not fake news.
“I joined them last year, and I’m happy with all that is going on here. I was part of the squad that helped Abia Warriors gain promotion to the NPFL, but a knee injury stopped me from playing further.”
