Showtime Series XIII: ‘Victory Over Mainland Longhorns Didn’t Come Easy,’ Green Backs’ Divine Chidera Admits

Green Backs wide receiver Divine Chidera says their hard-fought 45–6 victory over Mainland Longhorns in Showtime Series XIII wasn’t easy.

The Green Backs finally got off the mark in the Showtime Series XIII with an emphatic 45–6 victory over the Mainland Longhorns on Matchday 8 at the Showtime Arena in Lekki, Lagos, on Sunday.

The win marked the Green Backs’ first of the campaign, while the Longhorns remain winless in the ongoing series.

Despite the convincing scoreline, Chidera maintained that the contest was physically demanding and required full concentration.

“It was a very difficult game,” Chidera said. “We had to work really hard to get this win. We just stayed focused and kept pushing until the end.”

The Green Backs controlled much of the game through speed and tactical discipline. Their offense found rhythm early, executing clean passes and quick runs that consistently broke through the Longhorns’ defense.

Chidera, who was instrumental in several key plays, credited his team’s sharpness and cohesion for the result.

“We noticed they weren’t fast enough and couldn’t keep up with our pace,” he explained. “We went at them real quick and took advantage of every opportunity. That was what helped us take control.”

The victory provided a timely morale boost for the Green Backs, who had struggled with inconsistency earlier in the series.

With just one matchday remaining, Chidera expressed optimism that the team could finish strong.

“This win means a lot to us,” he added. “We’ve been working hard all season, and it’s good to finally see it pay off. We’ll give our all again in the next game and hope to end the series strong.”
