The promising striker, who joined Monaco from Arsenal of England last season, is now plotting how to make himself relevant in Mauriccio Pochettino’s pecking order.
Fortunately, Balogun has regained his spot at Monaco, after battling injuries and a long absence from Team USA, to stake his claim to a position in Pochettino’s squad, at a point when the gaffer listed several traits that he admires about the youngster.
Balohun has scored in each of his past two US games, including an equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Ecuador, before which he netted the second goal in the 2-0 victory over Japan.
‘Balo’ now has a total of seven goals in 20 appearances since choosing to play for America in 2023, instead of Nigeria or England, with eyes on number eight, as Team USA get ready to face Australia on Tuesday.
Balogun said: “For me, it’s about building momentum, consistently being a part of the team and being available I think the most important thing for any athlete is to be available.
“So, I want to prove that to the coaching staff. The longer I’m on the pitch building confidence, good things are going to happen. So it’s a process, but I’m definitely happy with how it’s going.”
