Nigerian-born NFL Star Rome Odunze Stays Calm After His Dad’s Rant On Social Media

Nigerian-born American Football star, Rome Odunze is staying calm, even after his father took to social media to rain invectives over what he termed as discrimination against his son by Chicago Bears in USA’s National Football League (NFL).

Sports247 gathered that the senior Odunze, who had also been a promising NFL player in his youth days, felt that his son, who is now a second-year Chicago wideout, was forced to endure his first game this season without a catch.

The angry father, James Odunze expressed disgust with his son’s limited involvement, then went ahead to repost other people’s recent criticism of Chicago’s offense on X and added his own critical views in new posts.

The flurry came after his son went without a catch for the first time this season, although he dropped a pass from tight end, Cole Kmet, on The Bears’ first drive, and could have reeled in a tipped toss to the end zone later on.

In the wake of the win, which was The Bears’ fifth in their past six games, James Odunze reposted a comment that his son should be getting at least 10 targets per game, though he has got more times in just two of his eight games this season.

However, rather than join in the rant, Odunze distanced himself from his father’s social media activity and emphasized that his dad’s comments do not represent his own feelings.

Odunze, who has always spoken proudly about his Nigerian heritage, declared, “I don’t make a big deal out of it. Obviously, he has his opinions, and I have mine.

“If he feels like he needs to voice those things on social media, that’s his prerogative. But he speaks for himself and I speak for myself.”
