Nigerian Stars Morice Chukwu, Precious Christopher Determined to Keep Playing Amid Tanzania Election Unrest

Dar es Salaam – Nigerian footballers Morice Chukwu and Precious Christopher have vowed to remain focused on their football duties in Tanzania despite the recent civil unrest that disrupted activities across several major cities following the country’s general election.

The October 29 election was marred by outbreaks of violence in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha, and Mbeya, forcing a temporary halt to sports and other economic activities nationwide.

Chukwu, who features for Singida Black Stars, is currently in Dar es Salaam with his teammates preparing for their upcoming Premier League fixtures and CAF Confederation Cup group-stage campaign. Meanwhile, Christopher continues to train with the Yanga Princess squad as they gear up for the Women’s Premier League, scheduled to kick off on November 14.

Speaking exclusively to Sports247.ng, Chukwu admitted that the situation has been unsettling, particularly for foreign players, but stressed their commitment to their clubs remains firm.

“It’s not a good feeling, and yes, it’s scary, especially for us as foreign players,” Chukwu said. “But as professionals, we continue to follow the instructions of our club leaders. Our focus is to keep working hard and achieve our club’s goals.”

Christopher echoed her compatriot’s sentiments, urging leaders and authorities to restore peace across the nation.

“It scares us, but we believe this is only temporary and things will soon return to normal,” she said. “Tanzania is known for its peace and warm people — that’s why we chose to come here. We believe this wind will pass.”

Both players expressed optimism that calm will soon return, allowing football and daily life to resume fully.

Despite the tense atmosphere, their professionalism and dedication have been praised by club officials, who say their attitude reflects the resilience and unity football can bring even in difficult times.
