Victor Osimhen’s Lethal Form Leaves English Premier League Pundits Asking: Why Didn’t Our Clubs Sign Him?

Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick against Ajax Amsterdam of Netherlands in the UEFA Champions League has left many pundits of the English Premier League wondering why their clubs did not break the bank to sign the Super Eagles’ hitman.

Sports247 reports that Osimhen’s treble at Johan Cruyff Arena took his tally this season in the Champions League to six, thereby placing him ahead of top stars Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, Erling Haaland of Manchester City and Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid, who all have five to their names.

With Osimhen also on fire with his club in the Turkish Super Lig, many observers keep wondering what kind of an impact the former Napoli star would have made in the EPL if one of the top clubs signed him since last season.

However, despite several links with the 2023 African Footballer of The Year, top sides like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have failed to make the plunge for the Super Eagles’ star.

With several pundits now raising eyebrows over likely causes for the ‘snub’ Osimhen keeps receiving from English clubs, a writer for Chelsea’s communications unit, Lloyd Canfield analysed the dramatic situation in a very lengthy article.

Canfield’s write-up, which has been widely circulated by popular British tabloid, The Sun, dwelt extensively on the pros and cons of the Osimhen saga, as he tried to get plausible answers to the unusual snub.

The Chelsea FC reporter stated in part: “The Nigerian striker sits behind only Harry Kane (48) and Kylian Mbappe (47) for goals in all competitions, hitting the back of the net 43 times as we settle into November.

“That is more than the likes of all of the Premier League’s elite gunmen, with Erling Haaland sitting on 30, Viktor Gyokeres on 33, and the likes of Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko not even making the top 10.

“(He) has even now scored more goals than those two in the Champions League this season, with his hat-trick taking him to SIX goals in just three games for the Turkish giants, one more than the terrifying duo, having played one less game.

“Osimhen is performing in Europe‘s premier competition, in a significantly poorer side than the world’s best, and a winner in the UCL against Premier League champions Liverpool proves that he is ready to return to a truly elite league.”
