‘One Run, A Thousand Opportunities!’ — Lagos Sports Boss Hails 10th Women Run As a Triumph Of Strength and Empowerment

Lagos State Sports Commission Director General Lekan Fatodu has applauded the organisers of the 10th Lagos Women Run, praising their consistency and describing the annual event as a powerful symbol of women’s strength, resilience, and unity.

Speaking ahead of the milestone edition, Fatodu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to the event, noting that the run has grown from a modest fitness initiative into one of Nigeria’s most celebrated platforms for female empowerment and social impact.

This year’s race — themed “One Run, A Thousand Opportunities” — will be preceded by a four-day empowerment programme, which began on Tuesday, November 4, offering participants practical training, mentorship, and business skills.

“This theme is both symbolic and timely,” Fatodu said. “It reminds us that a single act of running can open countless doors — for self-discovery, inclusion, and collective progress for women in our society.”

He lauded the transformation of the Lagos Women Run into a national movement that blends sport, empowerment, and social engagement on a remarkable scale.

The event’s Expovvvvvv Programme, running alongside the race, will feature workshops on entrepreneurship and personal development. Race Ambassador U-Meleni Mhlaba Adebo will lead a session on how women can harness fitness and focus to build stronger homes and communities.

Expo Lead Sidikat Folami confirmed that preparations are complete, with hundreds of women ready to collect their kits and participate.

“We’re set to deliver a world-class event and grateful for the support from the Lagos State Government and partners like the Lagos Recyclers Association (LAGRA),” she said.

The 10th Lagos Women Run — set for Saturday, November 8 — is expected to draw thousands of runners, reinforcing its place as one of Nigeria’s most inspiring showcases of female power, purpose, and progress
