Team Nigeria’s Boxing Squad Jets Off to Riyadh For Islamic Solidarity Games As NSC DG Bukola Olopade Vows ‘Focused, Hungry For Success’

Team Nigeria’s boxing contingent has officially departed the country for Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, ahead of the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, scheduled to hold from November 7 to 21, 2025.

The team represents a crucial part of Nigeria’s multi-sport delegation, joining athletes from over 55 nations at the prestigious event. Nigeria’s participation underscores the nation’s deepening commitment to enhancing its global sporting profile and leveraging sport as a vehicle for unity, youth empowerment, and national pride.

Leading the delegation, Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Nigeria’s Chef de Mission, described the Riyadh Games as a cornerstone in the nation’s ongoing sports development strategy.

“This is more than just another international competition; it is a vital stepping-stone for our athletes toward Olympian ambitions,” Olopade said before departure. “Our team is prepared, focused, and hungry for success. We carry the hopes of the nation with us to Riyadh.”

He further emphasized that the Games form part of the NSC’s strategic roadmap toward international excellence, particularly as preparations intensify ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Nigeria has been a consistent participant at the Islamic Solidarity Games since the inaugural edition in 2005, recording significant achievements across various disciplines over the years.

The current boxing team, made up of experienced athletes, seasoned coaches, and dedicated technical staff, is expected to deliver another proud showing for the country.
