All is now set as women football teams from across Nigeria arrive Akure, the Ondo State capital, for the maiden edition of the Ondo State First Lady’s Pre-Season Tournament for Women Football Teams in Nigeria.
The week-long event, taking place at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, will feature top women’s clubs from different zones of the country competing in what promises to be an exciting showcase of talent, teamwork, and professionalism.

Welcoming the participating teams on behalf of the state government, the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, expressed delight at hosting the tournament, describing it as a major boost to women football development in Nigeria.
Mr. Ogbonnaya commended the First Lady of Ondo State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, for her passion and commitment to the growth of women football and empowerment of the girl child.
He assured visiting teams of a warm reception and top-class organization throughout their stay.
He further urged all participants to play by the rules, exhibit discipline and good sportsmanship, and see Ondo State as their home. “Ondo State is known for peace and hospitality; we want every team to feel welcome and comfortable as they compete,” he said.
The tournament, scheduled to run from November 2nd to 8th, 2025, will serve as a platform for teams to fine-tune tactics ahead of the new league season and promote unity among women football stakeholders across Nigeria.
