NOC Inaugurate Technical and Development Commission as Nesiama Takes Charge

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has taken a major step toward strengthening its technical framework and advancing sports development across the nation with the inauguration of its newly reconstituted Technical and Development Commission, officially chaired by Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd).

The inauguration, held on October 28, 2025, was described by NOC President, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, OON, FNSE, FNIM, as an *“epoch-making event” and a “giant stride” toward fulfilling the Committee’s core objectives within Nigeria’s Olympic movement.

Commodore Nesiama, who brings decades of technical experience, administrative expertise, and leadership to the position, is widely respected in Nigeria’s sports community. A former technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and an accomplished naval officer, Nesiama is renowned for his strategic insight and commitment to athlete development, performance standards, and technical integrity in sports administration.

In his address, Engr. Gumel underscored the importance of the commission in aligning with the International Olympic Charter and NOC Statutes, noting that such commissions are critical advisory bodies established to promote Olympic values and drive the movement’s mission across all levels of sport.

He emphasized that the appointments were made based on “personal recognition and contributions to our sports development objectives,” describing the new roles as “voluntary and sacrificial service to our fatherland.”

Other members of the commission include Mr. Mohammed Isa, Lt. Col. G. Bello, Prof. Ebenezer Morakinyo, Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Mr. Tunde Kazeem, Daniel Ademola, CSP Kalu Chijoke Erem, and Engr. Jackson Samuel.

Engr. Gumel confirmed that the commission has been provided with its Terms of Reference (ToR) and will receive full administrative backing from the NOC Secretariat. He urged the members to commence work immediately and utilize virtual platforms to ensure consistent engagement and productivity.

He concluded by assuring the commission of the NOC’s full support, noting that its activities will be monitored to ensure they align with the Committee’s vision of raising technical standards and fostering sports excellence nationwide.

With Commodore Nesiama at the helm, stakeholders across the Nigerian sports community express optimism that the NOC Technical and Development Commission will usher in a new era of strategic growth, technical efficiency, and holistic development across Olympic and non-Olympic sports in the country.
