Tanzania’s Twiga Stars Qualify for 2026 WAFCON After Historic Win in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa – Tanzania’s women’s national football team, the Twiga Stars, have secured qualification for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals after defeating Ethiopia 1-0 away at the Dira Dawa International Stadium.

The Tanzanian side advanced with a 3-0 aggregate victory, following their earlier 2-0 win at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.

Star forward Asha Mnunka was the hero once again, netting the only goal of the game in the 34th minute to send the Twiga Stars to their second consecutive WAFCON finals.

This achievement highlights Tanzania’s growing strength in women’s football. The Twiga Stars first appeared at the continental showpiece in 2010, before returning in 2024, and now making back-to-back qualifications — a testament to their remarkable progress.

With the ticket to the 2026 WAFCON secured, Tanzania will now focus on preparation for the tournament, aiming to make a deep run and continue inspiring a new generation of women footballers across the nation.
